We serve society with sustainable mobility solutions, both private and shared. As part of ZEEKR and the Geely family, one of the most innovative and fastest growing global mobility groups, our work comes to life in products and services from world-leading brands. CEVT was built by people from all over the world. We’re flexible, fast, and always in motion.

Master Thesis Project - Cloud-native vehicle software development and deployment.

Subject:

The Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge (SOAFEE) project is an industry-led collaboration defined by automakers, semiconductor suppliers, open source and independent software vendors, and cloud technology leaders. The initiative intends to deliver a cloud-native architecture enhanced for mixed-criticality automotive applications with corresponding open-source reference implementations to enable commercial and non-commercial offerings.

Background

The background is to be found in these documents:

Figure: Cloud Native Applied to Automotive System Development

Scope

With references to the White Papers:

As an example of the first phase of cloud-native software development, imagine a developer sitting in a café with her/his laptop, connecting to the cloud, developing their advanced driving assistance system (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control or lateral line control, application, commiting the code, and triggering a build and integration cycle in the cloud on a virtual execution environment closely representing the physical automotive target system, assuming environment parity between cloud and automotive edge.

In the coming phases, the developer can run SIL simulations in the cloud, deploy the software to HIL rigs, do run-time verifications in the vehicle. The different stages in the update are finished by vehicle engineers allocated all over the world and during any time of the day.

Thesis overview/Project steps

  • Collecting general information about the technology exemplified by the SOAFEE initiative. Understand how it can be utilized at CEVT. Present the information at CEVT.
  • Specifically understand how the Environment Parity between cloud and vehicle can be achieved in a CEVT case. Document it and present it at CEVT.
  • Follow the SOAFEE initiative.
